Battery Recycling Market Research Study
We were commissioned by RENEW to carry out a market research study into battery recycling in the North East.

RENEW aim to facilitate the delivery of commercial energy and environmental technology projects across the North East region of England.
In order to investigate the potential for introducing a battery recycling plant to the North East, we:
- identified the quantity of battery arisings and recycling
- identified battery supply chains
- reviewed legislation and market trends
- developed future battery arising scenarios / recycling scenarios
- analysed the financial benefits of establishing a facility in the North East
- Mapped the current arisings and supply chain for waste batteries in the North East & UK
- Identified when enough batteries could be sourced to supply a facility in the North East
- Proved that a battery recycling facility in the North East could be viable once an increase in batteries start to come through the waste stream
This work will provide us with a useful platform upon which we can build future research and recycling capacity in the region. Working with Valpak provided the project with extensive insight, contacts and internal data regarding battery recycling which added value to the project.
