Valpak launched its Zero Waste to Landfill Certification service in 2012 and since then has certified a wide range of organisations from big brand retailers and food producers to I.T. equipment manufacturers.
Certification ensures that organisations are not sending any waste to landfill, but also operate a system of full traceability of their waste streams, treatment processes and process losses, working to a recognised standard. Achieving zero waste to landfill provides a wide range of environmental, social and financial benefits. Having this achievement certified can also help organisations ensure it is certified to a recognised standard and can help increase business opportunities from environmentally aware customers.
H K Wentworth’s Journey To Achieve Certification
H K Wentworth Ltd set out to achieve its zero waste to landfill ambitions in early 2016. Being a manufacturer of a wide range of specialist electro-chemicals, advanced cleaning products and chemical solutions for niche applications through both Electrolube and AF International brands, the challenge would be to find effective waste management solutions for a wide range of waste streams.
The key challenge faced by H K Wentworth Ltd was the management of 14 different waste streams ranging from general waste and office paper to plastic dipped buckets and electrical waste. In order to achieve zero waste to landfill, H K Wentworth used various techniques for improving waste management on site including increasing staff awareness, consolidating waste management contractors and putting in place systems for monitoring and continuous improvement.
