As Chemfix continues to grow and expand its product offerings, the company wanted to take a data-driven approach to sustainability. Specifically, it sought a credible way to quantify and communicate the environmental impacts of its diverse product portfolio to customers, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
Chemfix faced several key challenges:
- Assessing the life cycle impacts of 27 distinct products, most of which are available in multiple packaging formats.
- Understanding the carbon footprint associated with its products and their associated packaging.
- Producing credible, standardised Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to support customer demands and market expectations.

Chemfix partnered with Valpak Consulting to undertake a detailed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and develop Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in line with industry standards.
Valpak’s solution included:
- An LCA with the system boundary cradle-to-gate with additional modules C and D to account for the production, end-of-life and benefits beyond the system boundary of 27 products, including 12 chemical anchors and 15 fillers and adhesives.
- A comprehensive analysis on the carbon footprints of 27 products across their life cycles, taking into account differences in product formulations and packaging formats.
- Delivery of 27 EPDs: 7 for products available in a single packaging format and 20 for products offered in multiple packaging formats.

Through collaboration with Valpak Consulting, Chemfix has strengthened its sustainability credentials and enhanced transparency across its product portfolio. Key outcomes include:
- Detailed insight into the life cycle environmental impacts of its products and packaging
- 27 credible, verified EPDs, enabling the company to meet its customers’ sustainability demands, tender requirements, and regulatory expectations
- The ability to communicate its environmental credentials more clearly and consistently with customers and stakeholders.
- A robust environmental dataset that can inform impact reduction strategies and serve as a baseline for future improvements.
