The Carbon Reduction Commitment – Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC) was introduced in 2008 and is the first piece of compulsory UK legislation to address energy use amongst medium to large non-energy intensive organisations.
Who is Affected? Phase 1
Organisations that owned at least one half hourly electricity meter in the UK on 31 December 2008 and used more than 6,000MWh of electricity should have registered with the CRC Registry by 30 September 2010.
Phase 2 begins in 2013 and affects organisations if they:
Companies affected by Phase 2 will need to register with the CRC Registry. Registration will take place between 4 November 2013 - 31 January 2014.

What Do You Need to Do?
Organisations will need to:
- Submit an annual report on the last working day of July
- Create and maintain a detiled evidence pack
- Purchase and surrender carbon allowances to offset their level of emissions
