WEEE Regulations ‘EPR’ Reform

Status: Initial proposals expected Summer 2022

Scope: UK-wide

Proposed start date: Currently looking at implementation across 2025/26

Scotland Deposit Return Scheme (DRS)

Status: Confirmed in legislation May 2020

Scope: Scotland

Proposed start date: 16 August 2023

Packaging Waste Regulations ‘EPR’ Reform

Status: Summary of Spring 2021 consultation published late March 2022

Scope: UK-wide

Proposed start date: Phased implementation from 2024, full financial implementation from 2025

Producers’ to become financially responsible for funding the net costs associated with dealing with packaging waste’.

Plastic Packaging Tax

Status: Implementing regulations published late 2021

Scope: UK-wide

Proposed start date: April 2022 - first returns due July 2022

£200 per tonne tax on plastic packaging produced or imported that does not contain at least 30% recycled content.

Consistent Collections Framework

Status: Consultation on updated proposals closed 4 July 2021

Scope: England

Proposed start date: 2024

All local authorities to collect at least the same basic set of recyclable materials from households and businesses.

Rest of UK Deposit Return Scheme (DRS)

Status: Summary of Spring 2021 consultation published late March 2022

Scope: England, Wales & Northern Ireland

Proposed start date: Late 2024
