Member summaries

Scottish Government has recently published draft legislation under the super affirmative procedure to implement a Deposit Return System for drinks containers. A consultation is being held for 91 days to allow stakeholders to put forward any comments or responses to the draft legislation. The deadline for responses is 10 December 2019.





In September 2017, it was confirmed that Scotland would implement a Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) for beverage containers. The Scottish Government released the consultation "A Deposit Return Scheme for Scotland" in June 2018 and requested stakeholder feedback on how the scheme should be implemented. Scottish Government has now confirmed the scope of the Scottish DRS, which will include glass, metal and PET beverage containers. The deposit will be set at 20p.
