With only two weeks to go, I am busy making final preparations for Valpak’s stand
presence at Med-Tech Innovation Expo!
Med-Tech Innovation Expo will attract a number of organisations that supply electronic
and electrical equipment to the medical industry. This means that this event will
provide us with an opportunity to make manufacturers, distributors and importers
aware that they may now have obligations under the Restriction of the Use of Certain
Hazardous Substances in Electronic and Electrical Equipment (RoHS) Regulations.
This event is especially timely, as medical and monitoring devices will be coming
into scope come 22 July this year.
Have you thought about RoHS compliance?
I have found that many organisations are now accustomed to dealing with the Waste
Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations, which is why it surprises
me that some are only just beginning to recognise the importance of RoHS compliance,
especially as these two sets of regulations go hand in hand.
To explain a little bit more, the RoHS Regulations aim to restrict certain hazardous
substances in electrical and electronic equipment, in order to prevent damage to
human health and the environment. The regulations have been in place for around
seven years now and, after the recast in 2013, more organisations and / or electrical
and electronic products will become obligated.
Will your company by affected?
Your organisation will need to be compliant with the RoHS Regulations if it:
- Manufactures electrical or electronic equipment
- Imports electrical or electronic equipment
- Distributes electrical or electronic equipment
There are a several aspects to consider when reviewing whether your organisation
is compliant with these regulations, which include:
- Product testing
- Compliance declarations
- Product labelling
