weee obligations

Producers of EEE intended for use by private households are required to finance the cost of the collection, treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal of:

  • WEEE from private households deposited at Designated Collection Facilities (DCF's)

  • WEEE from private households returned to Producer Compliance Schemes by Distributors

Producers of WEEE intended for use by private households will have their obligations met on their behalf, by their compliance scheme.

Producers will initally supply their compliance scheme details of the amount of EEE they have placed onto the UK market during:

  • 1 January to 31 December 2006 on or before the 15 March 2007

And from then on amount of EEE placed onto the UK market during:

  • 1 July to 31 September 2007 on or before the 30th October 2007

  • 1 October to 31 December 2007 on or before the 31 January 2008

The compliance scheme will provide this information to the relevant agency, who will then calculate and allocate each producers estimated market share based on the total EEE placed onto the UK market by all producers.

Compliance schemes will arrange for the collection, treatment, recovery and environmental sound disposal of each of its producers allocated market share of WEEE, the cost of which will be passed back to the producer.
