The DTS are responsible for collecting and allocating money to assist in the development of a UK wide network of WEEE collection facilities. This fund is used to assist in the improvement of Local Authority Civic Amenity (CA) sites, so that as many different types of WEEE as possible can be collected.
The cost of joining the DTS will, for the larger electrical retailers, be based on market share of electrical and electronic equipment. Market share will be determined by sales of EEE in the previous calendar year. Retailers who only sell a relatively small quantity of EEE will pay a fixed fee.
