product marking

The crossed out wheeled bin symbol

The crossed out wheeled bin symbol is designed to help facilitate the separate collection of WEEE.

  • It must be a minimum size of 7mm and be on the product. In exceptional cases, where the size or function of the product prevents the symbol being placed on the product, the symbol may be displayed on the packaging, instructions / manual or warranty

  • The black bar underneath the crossed out wheeled bin denotes that the product was placed on the market after 13 August 2005, and acts as the data mark producers are required to place on EEE

For further guidance please refer to the CENELEC report.

Date Mark

A date mark must be fixed to each EEE product to indicate that it was placed on the market after 13 August 2005. The black bar underneath the picture of the crossed out wheeled bin denotes that the product was placed on the market after 13th August 2005 and so acts as the date mark.

Producer Identification Mark

Producers must mark their EEE with a 'producer identification mark'. This is generally the brand name or logo and must easily identify you as the producer of that EEE product. If a number of producers are importing the same brand of product then current agency advice is unclear as to how each producer identifies itself. Valpak would advise that each producer keep records of the serial numbers of the pieces of equipment they import, so that the correct producer can be identified.
