£1,250 of Prizes Given Away Every Month – Just for Recycling

by Valpak Limited | Mar 26, 2012
A further £1,250 worth of prizes were presented to environmentally conscious North East residents at Gateshead Civic Centre this month.

Lucky residents of Durham, Gateshead, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland Councils were presented with prizes including two laptops, a tablet computer, a games console and £300 worth of Blu-Ray discs, CDs and games. In previous months, prizes have also included a high definition television, an iPod with docking station and clothes.

Paul Heslington, from Chester Le Street, Co Durham, said:

“I couldn’t believe it when the message came through that one of our aerosols had been identified. We always try to recycle everything that we can – but to have won a laptop is fantastic. I would like to thank everyone involved, especially the Council”.

This unique project aims to reward residents for recycling and is only available in the North East of England. The scheme is run by Valpak Limited and Waste Aware North East, and is funded by the Central Government department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Prizes are provided by Valpak with the support from leading online retailer, The Hut.

The scheme will run until the end of July 2012, so there is still the choice of over £6,000 worth of prizes available to win in the remaining twenty five prize draws – that’s one for each of the five council areas for five more months. To participate, residents need to register online at www.recycle-more.co.uk/nerewards or by calling 0844 844 4546 and then apply the personalised stickers that they will be sent to empty glass jars or aerosols (hard plastic bottles and aerosols in Northumberland) before putting their recycling out as usual.

Winners can also choose to donate their prize to a local community group of their choice, or use the money available to contribute toward something of that group’s choice, such as a day out.

You can help spread the message using the scheme’s social media groups, please 'Like' them on Facebook (North East Recycling Rewards) or follow them on Twitter (@NERewards).
