| Packaging Recycling Data for 2010 Released on Eurostat |
| Eurostat provides the EU with statistics enabling comparisons between European countries and regions. Packaging recycling and recovery data for 2010 recently published on the site confirms an increase on 2009 with 76.2% of packaging in the EU27 being recovered, of which 63.3% was recycled. The recycling data can be found here, and the recovery data here. |
| New Waste Prevention Guidance from the European Commission | French Recycling Logo |
| All EU Member States are required to develop national waste prevention programmes by December 2013. The European Commission has recently published guidance clarifying key waste prevention concepts to help governments in developing these plans. A copy of the guidance can be found here. | The French Environment and Energy Agency (ADEME) is developing a new compulsory recycling logo, the objective of which is to encourage consumers to sort recyclable packaging and products by making them more identifiable. The logo is expected to be introduced in 2015. |
| A European Litter Prevention Network | EU Glass End of Waste Criteria Published |
| Litter prevention organisations together with the convenience food packaging association Pack2Go have pledged to launch a new litter prevention network in the first quarter of 2013. The plan was announced at a recent Litter Prevention Conference in Brussels. | A new European regulation setting out end of waste criteria for glass cullet destined for re-melt was published on 10th December 2012. The regulation came into force on 30th December 2012 and will apply from the 11th June 2013. Please click here for more details. |
