• What makes Valpak different to one of the big waste management companies?

  Valpak provide a healthy and safe working environment for all of our employees and others affected by our activities; including customers, visitors and the general public. • How can Valpak guarantee ethical disposal of materials?

  All of our partners are subject to a full audit and an inspection before we will consider working with them. We only work with environmentally responsible companies.

• Do you offer total waste management solutions?

  Yes we do. Our total waste management solution starts with us carrying out a free waste audit, at your site, to establish where we can best help you. In addition to collecting paper, plastic, cardboard, aluminium and steel cans and glass, this solution also offers collection of waste electrical and electronic equipment, batteries, hazardous waste, wood and general waste. To enable us to collect these additional materials, we contract with accredited and approved suppliers, who provide a cost-effective and reliable service. Contact us to find out more.

• How do you report on collections?

  We have just launched a new online portal where our recycling services customers can generate their own, bespoke reports which can be categorised by materials, sites and collection dates. The reports are designed to help our customers to identify their biggest revenues and costs associated with their waste and recycling.

• Who are your customers?

  Our customers are made up of large and small UK businesses, Local Authorities and reprocessors.

   

• Can you offer closed loop recycling?

  Yes we can. We trade with a large number of end markets in the UK, Europe and the Far East to ensure continuity of service. And we ensure that the material that we collect goes into a closed loop recycling system amongst a number of alternative applications. For example:

  • glass is often used to make new bottles or used as a water filtration medium
  • plastic is often used to make new clothes, plastic bottles and plastic bags
  • aluminium is often used to make new cans, planes etc
  • steel is often used to make new cans and steel girders
  • wood is often used to produce energy from waste and to make animal bedding
  • some of the plastic from WEEE can be used to make side panels for new white goods and the metals can be used to create any type of new product dependant on the metal type. New items include components for electrical and electronic equipment and construction materials. Some of the rare metals, used in mobile phones, have a high value

   

• Valpak do not have their own operational infrastructure. How do you deliver your service?

  Valpak have developed a nationwide network of partners to cover areas where we do not have our own infrastructure. This network gives Valpak the ability to respond to any specific need, whether it be a recycling technology or a type of vehicle. This allows our service to be flexible and in tune with your own environmental objectives.

• I thought Valpak were a compliance scheme. What other services do you offer?

  Valpak offer a one stop shop for all of your environmental needs through our Environmental Management Service. This service covers areas such as environmental legislation, data management, life cycle assessment and recycling.

• Does working with external contractors make you slow to react to a changing marketplace?

  Valpak is ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 accredited. Our internal processes, together with our excellent relationships with external partners, allow us to be responsive and competitive.

• Do your core business activities compromise the service implemented by your Recycling Services division?

  Not at all. Valpak has offered a recycling service since 2003. We have a dedicated account management function backed up by a long standing Logistics Team ready to tackle your recycling queries. • Your range of materials handled is very broad. Does this make you a jack of all trades and a master of none?

  Through our comprehensive network of partners Valpak are proud to offer the capability and expertise required to service your site ethically and efficiently.

• As you are a waste broker doesn’t this add cost to the service you are providing for me?

  Not at all. Through efficient processes, economies of scale and effective relationships with good quality end markets Valpak remain highly competitive throughout all materials. We can provide examples of service and references to anyone requiring proof that we remain a leading contender in the environmental arena.
