The main changes outlined in these amendments to the NI Packaging Waste Regulations ensured targets were in place until end of 2012, and made some slight changes to steel and plastic recycling targets, along with some minor amendments which mainly covered reprocessors.

The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010

These amendments changed the packaging recycling and recovery targets from 2008 to 2010. The 2007 Packaging Waste Regulations impose on producers the obligation to recover and recycle packaging waste, and related obligations, in order to attain the recovery and recycling targets.

These amendments to the NI Packaging Waste Regulations correct an error in the 2007 NI Packaging Waste Regulations in respect of the definition of the Waste Directive. The 2007 NI Packaging Waste Regulations impose on producers the obligation to recover and recycle packaging waste and related obligations, in order to attain the recovery and recycling targets.

These amendments to the 1997 Packaging Waste Regulations revise the packaging recycling and recovery targets and some of the agency registration fees. Please note that, due to devolution from 2000 onwards, Scotland had its own set of regulations; however, they are practically identical to the England and Wales regulations. The Scottish regulations did not require companies to register separately in Scotland unlike Northern Ireland.
