How the System Works

Business to Consumer System

The business to consumer (B2C) system works on a market share basis, with each obligated 'producer' funding WEEE recycling costs related to their share of the market. Find out how your WEEE market share is calculated.

Household consumers do not have any obligations under the WEEE Regulations.

Business to Business System

The business to business (B2B) system is more flexible and puts the responsibility for funding the recycling of WEEE directly onto the 'producer'. The default requirement is for customers to request the collection of WEEE from the ‘producer’. Producers must then organise for the WEEE to be collected, treated and recycled.

We can help with WEEE collection, treatment and recycling, so please contact us to find out how. Alternatively, B2B producers can put other arrangements in place, such as making the customer responsible for the recycling of their WEEE.

Historic WEEE

There are slightly different responsibilities for WEEE produced before August 2005.
