• How do I know if I am affected by the WEEE Regulations?

  Does your business sell electrical or electronic equipment (EEE) to the UK market?

  If you are a manufacturer, brand owner, re-brander or importer of electrical or electronic equipment into the UK you are likely to be affected by the WEEE Regulations and classed as a ‘Producer’. Find out if you're affected here.

• Am I classed as a 'producer' under the WEEE Regulations?

  If you are a manufacturer, brand owner, re-brander or importer of electrical or electronic equipment into the UK you are likely to be affected by the UK WEEE Regulations and classed as a ‘Producer’. • Do I qualify for Valpak's small WEEE producer fixed membership fee?

  Businesses that place less than 1 tonne of non hazardous EEE onto the UK market qualify for our small WEEE producer membership for a fixed fee of £250. If you are not too sure if you're eligible please contact one of our friendly techincal advisors on 08450 682 572.

• I am a WEEE retailer / 'distributor' only. Do I need to register?

  If you are a 'distributor' (otherwise known as a retailer) you have to make sure that consumers can recycle their old WEEE either by returning it to you 'in store', when they buy a new electrical or electronic product, or you must otherwise join the Distributor Take back Scheme.

• What are the categories of EEE?

  The 10 categories of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), as defined by the WEEE Regulations, are as follows:

  1. Large household appliances
  2. Small household appliances
  3. IT and telecommunications equipment
  4. Consumer equipment
  5. Lighting equipment
  6. Electrical and electronic tools (with the exception of large-scale stationary industrial tools)
  7. Toys, leisure and sports equipment
  8. Medical devices (with the exception of all implanted and infected products)
  9. Monitoring and control instruments
  10. Automatic dispensers

  In the WEEE Regulations there are three other categories which are as follows:

  1. Display equipment
  2. Cooling appliances containing refrigerants
  3. Gas discharge lamps

• What is an evidence note?

  An evidence note is a certificate of recycling evidence that is generated by an accredited waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)reprocessor for every tonne of WEEE recycled.

• I can generate evidence notes from my own WEEE. Can I use these to offset my compliance bill?

  Yes you can. Valpak have set up a Members’ Compliance Evidence Policy (MCEP), which enables Valpak members to register their own WEEE recycling evidence notes with us so that they can offset some or most of their WEEE compliance bill. • I am a local authority. How do I register my sites as DCFs?

  The Distributor Take back Scheme is responsible for collating and maintaining a register of Designated Collection Facilities (DCFs). If you would like to register your sites as DCFs you can do so at www.valpak.co.uk/dts.
