The batteries compliance system works on a market share basis, with each obligated manufacturer ('producer') funding battery recycling costs related to their share of the market.
Some retailers ('distributors') also have a role to play. In order to meet yearly battery collection targets, which are set by the Government, 'distributors' that sell over 32kg of batteries per year must offer to take back waste batteries in store. Battery Collection Scheme
Valpak now has around 25,000 battery collection points across the UK. Collections started in February 2010 and we are pleased to say that we are already well on the way to meeting this year's target.
