• How do I know if I am affected by the Waste Batteries Regulations?

  If your organisation manufactures or imports batteries, or manufactures or imports electrical or electronic items that contain batteries, it is likely that you will be obligated under the Waste Batteries Regulations.

  If you are a retailer supplying batteries to end users you may also have a role to play.

• Am I classed as a 'large producer' or 'small producer' under the Batteries Regulations?

  You are classed as a large producer if you place over a tonne of portable batteries onto the UK market during a calendar year. You are classed as a small producer if you place one tonne or less onto the market during a calendar year.

• I am a 'large producer'. How do I register with a Batteries Producer Compliance Scheme

  Joining Valpak’s Battery Producer Compliance Scheme couldn’t be easier. All you need to do is fill out our enquiry form and a new member pack will be sent to you as soon as your form has been processed. If you would like to speak to a technical advisor before joining please call 08450 682 572.

• I am classed as a 'small producer'. What do I need to do?

  You will need to contact the relevant environment agency and register with them for the compliance year. The agency will let you know of all of the necessary requirements and they will tell you what data you need to collect and collate. If you are unsure if you're deemed as a 'small producer' under the Waste Batteries Regulations, contact one of our friendly technical advisors on 08450 682 572.

• I am a batteries retailer / distributor only. Do I need to register?

  You do not have to register. However, you do have other obligations, details of which can be found in our 'who is affected' section.

• Do I need to include the battery weights in with my WEEE submission too?

  No you do not have to include battery weights in your WEEE submission. You are required to separate out the weights of your batteries from your WEEE and submit the data separately. If you are affected by the UK WEEE Regulations, enquire about joining Valpak’s WEEE Producer Compliance Scheme.
