The UK Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations were introduced in 2007, with the aim of reducing the amount of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) ending up in landfill. They require 'producers' and 'distributors' to finance the collection, treatment and recycling or reuse of this fast-growing and problematic waste stream.
Does your business sell EEE to the UK market? If you are a manufacturer, brand owner, re-brander or importer of electrical or electronic equipment into the UK you are likely to be affected by the WEEE Regulations and classed as a ‘Producer’.
If your business sells EEE to consumers, either direct from shops or through the internet or catalogues, then you are deemed as a 'distributor' and will have an obligation under the WEEE Regulations. Find out more
Please note that you can be classed as both a 'producer' and a 'distributor'.
If you are still not sure if your company is affected by the WEEE Regulations you can find out by reading through the following points:
Are You Obligated?
You have a WEEE obligation if any of the following points apply to you: - you sell / manufacture Electrical or Electronic Equipment (EEE) for household and / or business use
- you sell or manufacture EEE that ends up in businesses or households
- you sell own brand EEE products
- you import directly or drop-ship* EEE products from abroad
There are a number of criteria that relate to whether or not you have an obligation. If you are still unsure then please request a call back from one of our technical advisors or call 08450 682 572 *Drop shipping is a supply chain management technique in which the retailer does not keep goods in stock, but instead transfers customer orders and shipment details to either the manufacturer or a wholesaler, who then ships the goods directly to the customer.
