Producers of electrical or electronic equipment (EEE) which is sold for household use are required to finance the cost of the collection, treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal of:
Producers of household EEE have to join a WEEE compliance scheme to ensure that their obligations under the WEEE Regulations are met.
At the end of each quarter of a calendar year, EEE producers have to supply their WEEE compliance scheme with details of the amount of EEE that they have placed onto the UK market during that quarter.
The WEEE compliance scheme will provide this information to the relevant agency, who will then calculate and allocate each producer with their estimated market share. Market share is based on the total amount of EEE placed onto the UK market by all producers.
WEEE compliance schemes arrange for the collection, treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal of each of its producer members’ allocated market share of WEEE. The costs to do this are then passed back to the producer.
